Demo Trading: 10 Practice Scenarios

The following scenarios are based on real market conditions. For each one, read the description and chart, decide your trade before reading the answer, then compare your thinking to the professional analysis. This is how trading skill is built.

Remember: Open your demo account at any major broker (see below) and re-create these scenarios on real charts.

Scenario 1: The Classic Retest

Trade entry with Stop Loss and Take Profit on a real EUR/USD chart

Scenario 1 — The Classic Retest: EUR/USD H1. Bullish H4 trend. 1.0900 was resistance, now broken and pulled back as support. Bullish Engulfing forms at 1.0900. BUY. Entry 1.0905, Stop 1.0882 (below engulfing), Target 1.0951 (2:1 RR).

✅ Answer: BUY — Old resistance becomes support (flip). Bullish Engulfing confirms buyers. H4 uptrend aligns. Score: 5+. Entry: 1.0905, Stop: 1.0882 (below engulfing), Target: 1.0951 (2:1 RR).

Scenario 2: The False Breakout Trap

Scenario 2 — The False Breakout Trap: GBP/USD H4 ranging. Price spikes to 1.2665, closes at 1.2638 — Shooting Star above resistance on low volume. SELL. Close below 1.2640. Stop 1.2668 (above wick). Target 1.2580.

✅ Answer: SELL — Classic false breakout + shooting star at resistance. Price rejected resistance with low volume. Sell on close below 1.2640. Stop: 1.2668 (above the wick). Target: 1.2580. This is the "fakeout before the breakdown."

Scenario 3: Head and Shoulders at Major High

Head and Shoulders pattern on a real EUR/USD chart

Scenario 3 — H&S at Major High: USD/JPY Daily. H&S at 145.00 resistance. Left Shoulder 144.50, Head 145.20, Right Shoulder 144.30. Neckline 143.50. SELL on neckline break. Entry 143.45, Stop 144.50, Target 141.80.

✅ Answer: SELL — Complete Head & Shoulders. Right shoulder lower than left (buying exhaustion). Wait for H&S candle to CLOSE below 143.50 neckline. Entry: 143.45, Stop: 144.50 (above right shoulder). Target: 141.80 (neckline − head height).

Scenario 4: Flag in Strong Uptrend

Scenario 4 — Flag in Strong Uptrend: AUD/USD H4. 180-pip flagpole, then bear flag consolidation with small candles and decreasing volume. BUY breakout above 0.6620. Stop 0.6598, Target 0.6800 (flagpole height added).

✅ Answer: BUY on breakout — Textbook bull flag. Strong flagpole + shallow orderly pullback + decreasing volume. Buy when price closes above 0.6620. Stop: 0.6598 (below channel). Target: 0.6620 + 180 pips = 0.6800.

Scenario 5: Double Bottom at Major Support

Scenario 5 — Double Bottom at Support: EUR/GBP H4. 0.8500 major support tested twice. Neckline at 0.8560. Doji at second bottom. BUY ON NECKLINE BREAK above 0.8560. Entry 0.8562, Stop 0.8498, Target 0.8622.

✅ Answer: BUY ON NECKLINE BREAK — Wait for close above 0.8560 to confirm the Double Bottom. Buying early at support is tempting but adds risk. Entry: 0.8562, Stop: 0.8498 (below both lows). Target: 0.8622 (neckline + depth of pattern = 0.8560 + 0.0060 = 0.8620).

Scenarios 6–10: Quick Decisions

Scenarios 6–10 Quick Decisions:
6. EUR/USD M15 — RSI divergence + Shooting Star at resistance → SELL
7. GBP/JPY H1 — Ascending triangle, 4 resistance touches, strong breakout close + volume → BUY
8. USD/CAD H4 — Distribution phase, small candles, long upper wicks, 50 SMA flattening → WAIT (no clear signal)
9. AUD/JPY H1 — Falling Wedge, price breaks upper line with strong bull candle → BUY (bullish reversal)
10. EUR/USD Daily — Touches 200 SMA, large Hammer, H4 uptrend confirmed, London session → BUY
